Most smart automotive scanners come in a form of bulky tablets which I can understand the reasons behind it. These are usually tablets designed for industrial environment with all what it may bring of accidental drops, roughness exposure to oil, dirt and whatnot.
This tablet on the other hand is the first I ever see to come in a super slim format yet without sacrificing the necessary protections all around it! I do like it cause of all the other scanners this one is the most portable and manageable especially when traveling.
Otofix appears to be a sub brand of Autel which is one of my favorite brands when it comes to automotive tools. I also think it may be their way of offering reliable scanners with Autel quality and at an entry level price, if true, then they surely nailed it with this D1 line of scanners.
The D1 lite is the cheapest of the full line and I believe it is very competetively priced when you realized that it offers up to 38+ special functions, bidirectional control in a relatively small and sexy form factor packed with somewhat premium hardware: multi-core processor, expandable memory, integrated camera for barcode and QR code scanning, Bluetooth 5.0, big battery and a modern OS in Android 9, support of newer protocols like CAN FD and DoIP, this is without mentioning the Autel software likeliness and feel.
Setting up the tablet was a breeze especially since I already have an Autel account. I didn't need to use any activation code and the tablet pretty much registered itself to my account once a WiFi connection was supplied.
The auto detect VIN seems to always work at least with the cars I tried it on and where other scanners failed. The VIN and license plate scan can use some refining as it misses a lot or doesn't scan at all.
Overall this is a great value scanner especially for DIYers that don't want the bulky scary professional looking tablet but want same quality and performance.
